Find out more about this card......

Reward Formula - The Skypoints credit card from Delta and American Express allows you to earn one skypoint for every dollar you spend on the card. You can also earn double skypoints on any Delta or Song purchases and also on purchases at supermarkets, gas stations, home improvement and hardware stores, the US postal service and for your wireless phone bills if you pay through the card.

There are two ways to use your skypoints. You can either transfer your skypoints into Delta Skymiles or use them to get discounts on Delta or Song tickets.

  • Redeem 3,000 SkyPoints and receive a 10% discount
  • Redeem 7,500 SkyPoints and receive a 25% discount
  • Redeem 15,000 SkyPoints and receive a 50% discount
  • Redeem 20,000 SkyPoints and receive a 75% discount

SkyPoints can be redeemed for discounts off of the first $500 of a Delta or Song ticket. There are no flight restrictions and no blackout dates. If you choose to redeem your skypoints to get discounts, this is how it works. You can shop for the lowest Delta airfare and use your skypoints credit card to make the purchase. Once, your Delta charges appear on your statement, you can call American Express at 1-800-913-6716 and redeem for your discount. Your savings will be credited into your account. This is a great things because it allows you to shop for the lowest airfare.

You can earn skypoints for up to $60,000 in annual spending. You also get 2,500 bonus skypoints after your first purchase on your card.

Fees - The Skypoints credit card has an annual fee of $49.00. However, this fee is waived during the first year. The apr is prime rate plus 9.99% (the standard rate for airline credit cards). If you transfer a balance from another card, the apr will be fixed at 9.99% for the life of the transfer. The average daily balance method (including new purchases) is used to calculate monthly balances.

Other American Express Benefits - The Skypoints credit card comes with the typical American Express benefits like automatic travel insurance, auto rental insurance, purchase protection plan, buyer assurance plan, online fraud protection and offers and savings from ticketmaster. In addition, you also get a 24/7 convierge service.

Verdict - The SkypointsTM Credit Card from Delta and American Express is one of the best airline credit cards for the following reasons. You have the flexibility to convert your skypoints to either Delta Skymiles or use them to get a discount on Delta airfares. If you choose to use your points to get a discount, you can shop around for the lowest fare - no need to use some in-house travel agent from the credit card company or even Delta's representatives. This flexibility is also very useful because we all know that airfares vary depending on where and when you actually travel. Having the option to get discounts or transfer your skypoints to skymiles and then use them to a ticket redemption allows you to make best use of your "air miles". The other good thing about this card is that it has a very reasonable annual fee of $49.00. Traditional airline credit cards normally charge an annua fee of around $75.00. Thirdly, you not only earn double skypoints with Delta or Song purchases, but also with "everyday purchases".

If you are a Delta or Song frequent flier, we would highly recommend the skypoints credit card. We would even recommend it over the American Express Delta Skymiles credit card.

  • Flexibility to either transfer skypoints to skymiles or to redeem points for discounts on Delta airfares
  • Earn double skypoints
  • Very reasonable annual fee
