Review of National City Bank FirstAir Elite Visa

The National City Bank FirstAir Elite Visa was last reviewed on : 14th March 2005

Summary - The National City Bank FirstAir Elite Visa is National City Banks' travel reward credit card. You earn one point for every dollar you spend on purchase. Your points are valid for 5 years and you can earn unlimited points. FirstAir points can be redeemed for travel and shopping rewards. You can also earn cash rebates with your FirstAir points at the rate of 1% (get $100 cash rebate for 10,000 points) You can earn up to $1,000 in cash rebates. For travel rewards, you have a choice of booking your own ticket through your own travel agent and receive a credit on the purchase of your airline ticket. Or you could call FirstAir travel center and let them you all bookings for you. You redeem your points for airline tickets. Or you could simply get a cash rebate and do whatever you want with it.

The annual fee is $29.00 but waived for the first year. The apr is either prime rate plus 4.49%, 5.99% or 7.99% depending on the banks assessment of your credit.

In addition, you will also get travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, travel and emergency assistance as part of the credit card benefits. Another benefit that National City Bank offers on their credit cards is the ability for you to choose your payment date during a month. You can synchronize your payment with your other credit cards. You can also get additional cards with no additional fee.

The National City Bank FirstAir Elite Visa is a very good travel credit card. Firstly, you can earn unlimited points. Secondly, you can earn cash rebate of up to $1,000 a year at 1%. Thirdly, you have flexibility in redeeming your travel rewards. This comes in very handy. For example, if your airline ticket is going to cost you $300, then it makes sense to use FirstAir travel center, and use 25,000 points for your free ticket (25,000 is the standard number of miles/points needed for a restricted domestic economy flight). However, if your flight is short haul and only cost $150, then do the bookings yourself or get a cash rebate (using only 15,000 points). There annual fee $29.00 is reasonable. The reward program though is not as comprehensive as others in general, especially in the shopping category.
