Review of Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard

The Philips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard was last reviewed on 4th April 2005

Summary - We recommend the Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard to those who frequently use Phillips Conoco stations as
  • You earn 3% rebate from Phillips Conoco purchases
  • There is no annual fee and you get a low apr if you have the platinum version
  • You also get a 0% apr on balance transfers for 6 months

Those who want to earn more than 3% rebates on gasoline purchases should consider the Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Card citi dividend card and Discover Platinum Gas Card. Both pay 5% rebate on gasoline purchases.

Rebate Formula - The Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard allows you to earn a 3% rebate on any Phillips Conoco purchase and 1% rebate for other purchases. Rebates are valid for six billing cycles. They are automatically credited towards next months purchase.

Annual fee and APR - The Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard has no annual fee. The apr is prime rate plus 5.99% for the platinum version and prime rate plus 9.99% for the regular version. The Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard uses the average daily balance method (including new purchases) to calculate monthly balances. The is a 0% introductory apr on balance transfers for six months from the date of the first transfer as long as it occurs within the first six months. There is no balance transfer fee during the introductory period.

Summary - The Phillips 66 Conoco 76 Mastercard will appeal to those who use Philips Conoco gasoline stations frequently. However, the 3% rebate (though better than most reward credit cards) falls short of many other gas credit cards that pay 5% rebate on gasoline purchases. Therefore, we suggest that that you also consider the following cards.

Alternatives - To earn a rebate higher than 3% on gasoline purchases, you may want to consider the Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Card citi dividend card, which pays a 5% rebate on purchases from standalone supemarkets, gasoline stations and drugstores or the Discover Platinum Gas Card where you can potentially earn 10% rebate from gasoline purchases.

Positives
  • No annual fee
  • Low apr is you get the platinum version
Negatives
  • 3% rebate is low for a gasoline card
  • Rebates expire in 6 billing cycles versus 1 year for most station specific gas credit cards
